Turn in Hither

Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither.

By me thy days shall be multiplied,
and the years of thy life shall be increased.

If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself:
but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

Proverbs 9:4, 11-12

The call of wisdom in the ninth chapter of Proverbs is the voice of the Lord, calling lost, straying men to His ways. "Turn in hither" is a call to repentance. Choosing to repent is not to our detriment but to our benefit! We gain length of days -- and days blessed of God, at that. The choice you make, whether to "turn in hither" or to continue on your merry way to destruction, has its consequences (Gal. 6:7-9). Heed His voice. Obey His will.

His Greatness Is Unsearchable

The study of history gives perspective to one's life. It defines the present. To know where we are in time is essential to our present generation. It is humbling because it brings one to the realization that the here and now is so temporary: life does not revolve around me; I'm but one life; I am part of something much bigger than myself. But far more humbling is a good grasp of the concept of our life in terms of space.

Where are we, exactly?

We know our location on this planet called Earth, and we learned in school that our planet is the third of nine planets orbiting a star we call the sun. We also have a vague knowledge that our planetary system is located in the Milky Way galaxy. Those are just common facts.

But, really, where are we? Do we have any comprehension of our location, truly?

Astronomy is one of my favorite aspects of science. Microbiology is another. I find it so fascinating that man's  place in the scheme of creation is between the microscopic and the telescopic. I love to learn new things about outer space. I just love it! I especially love learning about space from a Biblical perspective -- which, in truth, is the only perspective, isn't it? =) I found this astounding video on Youtube yesterday. It answered  many questions but created so many more. =D

Scripture in the video is quoted from mistranslations. Here are the correct verses from the KJV.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge." (Ps. 19:1-2)

"Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." (Heb. 11:3)

"Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist." (Col. 1:15-17)

The Weather and Our Health

On November 13, we sorrowfully said goodbye to the sun.

We were graced with a gentle departure...

...and a final burst of glory as it vanished from the view of our northerly latitude.

The True LIGHT and overcoming peace of Christ's presence becomes so real during the dark days of Arctic winter. During the those endless night-stretching days when it seems that carrying on with joy is hopeless, His presence is enough. When spiritual oppression is strong and sensed, we only have to pray and Jesus delivers us. When a month passes without leaving the house except to walk the dog... when patience runs low and there is a discord in our home, He gives grace and helps and restores.

With His presence comes a real sense of contentment that is found only in Him.

Grandma's Apron

Author Unknown

I don't think our children know what an apron is.

The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material.

But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold Grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that old-time apron that served so many purposes.

Remember this: Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw. They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron. I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron... but love.
