God's Wonderful Word

Music by Patti Vaillant

Thy testimonies are wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them.
The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy commandments.
Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me.

I cried with my whole heart; hear me, O LORD: I will keep thy statutes.
I cried unto thee; save me, and I shall keep thy testimonies.
I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried.
Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
LORD, I have hoped for thy salvation, and done thy commandments.
My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly.
I have kept thy precepts: for all my ways are before thee.

Let my cry come near before thee: give me understanding.
I have longed for thy salvation; and thy law is my delight.
Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me.
My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.

Psalm 119:129-132, 145-148, 165-169, 174, 175, 172

Have You Died?

"Likewise reckon ye yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin..." (Rom. 6:11a)

While preaching in Spain in 2010, the good missionary I was with told me of reading George Mueller's secret of success. Mueller was questioned as to why he had such unusual spiritual success. His profound reply was, "There was a day I died." And as he spoke he bent lower and lower until he almost touched the floor, "I died to George Mueller; his opinions, his preferences, his tastes, and will. I died to the world, its approval or censure, died to the approval or blame even of my brethren and friends, and since then I have studied only to show myself approved to God." My father has often said that he got a divorce from public opinion! The truth of the matter is, that ultimately we only must answer to God. The approval of men is based on bias at best and lack of experience at worst. The approval of our heavenly Father is based solely on holiness. Besides, He is the only One that knows the true motives, secret faults, and He distributes talents as He will. God is the One we must deal with, and He is the One who deals with us.

I am sure that if you picked up one of the thousands of self-help books, or secrets to success tomes that litter our libraries these days, you would be hard pressed to find any that espouse Mueller's plan of success. However, in this case I think I'll side with Mueller. See you at the cemetery!

Remember, "...whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:27)

Have You Died?
Written and sung by Abigail Miller

There are so many Christians who name the name of Christ,
Who are washed in Jesus' blood, and are partakers of new life,
But deep inside they struggle with strong, besetting sin,
And they wonder if they'll ever learn the victory to win.

Have you died? Have you signed the warrant for your own execution?
Have you come to the end of self, and all your resolution?
When we finally fail in trying, we will find success in dying,
Have you died that you might live in Christ anew?

Lord Jesus, when You came to earth to give Your life for me,
You faced every strong temptation, but from sin Your life was free.
And if my perfect Savior had to die a cruel death
To obtain my freedom, how can I escape by doing less?

Have you died? Have you signed the warrant for your own execution?
Have you come to the end of self, and all your resolution?
When we finally fail in trying, we will find success in dying,
Have you died that you might live in Christ anew?

The only way to victory is not through strong resolve,
It is not through anything that I can do.
I must learn to see myself upon the cross in Jesus Christ,
And in Him I've resurrected to a pure and holy life.

I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live,
Yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.
And the life which I now live in the flesh,
I live by the faith of the Son of God
Who loved me, and gave Himself for me.

Have you died? Have you signed the warrant for your own execution?
Have you come to the end of self, and all your resolution?
When we finally fail in trying, we will find success in dying,
Have you died that you might live in Christ anew?

When we finally fail in trying, we will find success in dying,
Have you died that you might live in Christ anew?

Jesus Is ALIVE!

O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

I Corinthians 15:55

He's alive! He's alive! Glory to God, my Jesus is ALIVE!

A most glorious Resurrection Sunday to you!

"And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. ...They said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words..." (Luke 24:3, 5-8)

Silence fell upon that hill the day that Jesus died.
He cried out, "It is finished!" and hope was crucified.
The soldiers laughed and gambled for the robe that He had worn.
The women wept, His friends had fled, creation seemed to mourn.

They took his broken body down and carried Him away.
They laid Him in a borrowed tomb and then they sealed the grave.
The followers of Jesus hid, for hope, it seemed, was dead,
Yet in their darkest hour, would they remember what He said?

I will arise! I will arise!
Like the sun at dawn's first light I will arise!
You can bury Me that day, seal the tomb and turn away,
But the power of the grave will be denied.
I will arise!

His enemy, His ancient foe, content the deed was done,
Stood upon the battlefield, convinced that he had won.
As Satan rose in triumph to put away his sword,
From somewhere in the darkness came the Voice he'd heard before.

I will arise! I will arise!
Like the sun at dawn's first light I will arise!
You can bury Me that day, seal the tomb and turn away,
But the power of the grave will be denied.
I will arise!

Death will have no victory, the grave will have no sting,
The promise of the Living One the whole world will see, will see!

I will arise! I will arise!
Like the sun at dawn's first light I will arise!
You can bury Me that day, seal the tomb and turn away,
But the power of the grave will be denied.
I will arise!
I will arise!
I will arise!

A Greater Yes

The Lord is too wise to be mistaken, too faithful to disappoint,
and too good to be unkind.

It starts with a desire,
Planted deep within your heart.
You pray in faith, and wait for God to move.
But time passes and you wonder,
Did He hear me when I called?
Should I even have prayed that prayer at all?

You never pray a prayer
Your Father will not answer,
He can't ignore His child's earnest request.
While you're waiting and believing
For what you thought was best,
Trust God if He says no,
You're still blessed.
There must be a greater yes.

There comes a time when child-like faith
Must graduate to trust.
Trials come and you're convinced you're on your own.
But the Teacher's often silent
While you're in the hardest test,
But He'll answer when it's time with what is best.

You never pray a prayer
Your Father will not answer,
He can't ignore His child's earnest request.
While you're waiting and believing
For what you thought was best,
Trust God if He says no,
You're still blessed.
There must be a greater yes.

Sometimes God will answer just like we pray,
Then other times what's on His mind
Is a better plan, another way, a greater yes.

You never pray a prayer
Your Father will not answer,
He can't ignore His child's earnest request.
While you're waiting and believing
For what you thought was best,
Trust God if He says no,
You're still blessed.
There must be a greater yes.

Believe in Order to See

"Then believed they his words; they sang his praise. They soon forgot his works; they waited not for his counsel; but lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul." (Ps. 106:12-15)

We read of Moses, that "he endured, as seeing him who is invisible." Exactly the opposite was true of the children of Israel in this record. They endured only when the circumstances were favorable; they were largely governed by the things that appealed to their senses, in place of resting in the invisible and eternal God.

In the present day there are those who live intermittent Christian lives because they have become occupied with the outward, and center in circumstances, in place of centering in God. God wants us more and more to see Him in everything, and to call nothing small if it bears us His message.

Here we read of the children of Israel, "Then they believed his words." They did not believe till after they saw -- when they saw Him work, then they believed. They really doubted God when they came to the Red Sea; but when God opened the way and led them across and they saw Pharaoh and his host drowned -- "then they believed."

His Greatness Is Unsearchable

The study of history gives perspective to one's life. It defines the present. To know where we are in time is essential to our present generation. It is humbling because it brings one to the realization that the here and now is so temporary: life does not revolve around me; I'm but one life; I am part of something much bigger than myself. But far more humbling is a good grasp of the concept of our life in terms of space.

Where are we, exactly?

We know our location on this planet called Earth, and we learned in school that our planet is the third of nine planets orbiting a star we call the sun. We also have a vague knowledge that our planetary system is located in the Milky Way galaxy. Those are just common facts.

But, really, where are we? Do we have any comprehension of our location, truly?

Astronomy is one of my favorite aspects of science. Microbiology is another. I find it so fascinating that man's  place in the scheme of creation is between the microscopic and the telescopic. I love to learn new things about outer space. I just love it! I especially love learning about space from a Biblical perspective -- which, in truth, is the only perspective, isn't it? =) I found this astounding video on Youtube yesterday. It answered  many questions but created so many more. =D

Scripture in the video is quoted from mistranslations. Here are the correct verses from the KJV.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge." (Ps. 19:1-2)

"Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." (Heb. 11:3)

"Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist." (Col. 1:15-17)

Show Me, Lord

When I place myself before
The mirror of God's Word,
Reflections of my weaknesses I see.
Am I willing to improve,
Impurities remove,
Or simply walk away, content to be?
Show me, Lord, the error of my way,
Show me, Lord, where I have gone astray,
    And with Your help
    And by Your grace,
I'll do Your will, Thy Word embrace.
As I daily search Your Word
The Spirit speaks to me,
Reminding me of sinfulness in my heart.
Do I heed His tender call
And give to Him my all,
Or shun His perfect will, from Him depart?

Made Free by Truth

Bro. Roman Gray

Did I ever need to hear this message today. I am certain that the Holy Spirit was in it because it definitely put me under heavy conviction about some sins in my life. Sins I struggle with on a daily basis that I have finally begun to get down to business with God about. Sins I have got to deal with God about every day from this point forward. I received three easy-to-remember points from this message which I believe will help me tremendously in the coming days of battle with this thing called self.
    1. Conspicuous Absence
    2. Constant Authority
    3. Continuous Activity
Three Biblical principles that I as a child of God need to put to practice! Listen to the message and the Spirit might just show you how they apply to you, also.

Having an appetite for sin is a sad fact about being a descendent of Adam. However, I have this promise from the Word of God: "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." (John 8:36) I am not set free from sin to be left to figure out how to stay free. I am made free. He completely delivers and restores me, and my Shepherd Himself leads me to the place of victory, protection and joy.

Every day until I reach my Heavenly Home, God and I are going to have to deal with this struggle between my flesh and God's Holy Spirit within me. Between what I want to do and what God wants me to do. Furthermore, between what I want to do and what the authority God has placed over me wants me to do. Oh, I learned so much from this powerful message that HELPED me! I have struggled long and hard with these sins and I long to be free. The only way to victory is surrender. The devil has fooled me into believing I could justify my sins (which, by the way, to my human mind seem itty-bitty, but to the Holy Spirit are a grief!) Or I have thought that I could somehow overcome sins my way and still do what brings pleasure to self. The only -- the ONLY way to victory is death to self.

I thank God for putting this message into my ears today via the MP3 player I received as gift for Christmas. It's a gift that has blessed me already. I have come to the conclusion that this flesh needs a good preaching to on a daily basis. I am going to listen to this message again tomorrow and every day consecutively until I get every helpful truth out of it that God wants to give me. By God's grace I will not be a forgetful hearer but a doer of the Word!

I don't just want to win over sin. I want to win Christ. I want to win His approval over my every doing and thought and word. I want to know my Lord in deeper, fuller, richer ways. I want to be thirty and hungry and satisfied!

Why There's a Christmas Day

C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S

Another Christmas favorite!

Written by Eddy Arnold
Sung by Perry Como

When I was but a youngster,
Christmas meant one thing,
That I’d be getting lots of toys that day.
I learned a whole lot different
When Mother sat me down,
And taught me to spell Christmas this way:

"C" is for the Christ child, born upon this day,

Kissing the Face of God by Morgan Weistling

"H" for herald angels in the night,

Good News by Tom Dubois

"R" means our Redeemer,

The Hem by Simon Dewey

"I" means Israel,

"S" is for the star that shone so bright,

"T" is for three wise men, they who traveled far,

"M" is for the manger where he lay,

"A"’s for all He stands for,

For unto Us a Child Is Born by Simon Dewey

"S" means shepherds came,

And that’s why there’s a Christmas day.

Quinhagak, Alaska | Hallelujah Chorus

This is wonderful!!! The Kuinerrarmiut Elitnaurviat fifth grade class in the little village of Quinhagak, Alaska (Bethel area) put together this AMAZING rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus. How original and honoring to the Lord it is! Thank God that the forgotten public schools of Alaska's little villages are able to get away with portraying the TRUE meaning of Christmas. Christmas carols such as Silent Night and Joy to the World are regularly sung during annual Christmas plays at my village's public school. That is unheard of in this corrupt age we live in!

I love how they shot the scenes all around their village. It's very similar to where I live! And the people -- oh, it touched my heart seeing the faces of so many people who live there. I wonder, is there a Gospel-preaching church in Quinhagak? Five hundred people in Quinhagak... how many are lost and living and dying without the Savior? Who will tell them? The pastor (located in Alaska) who shared this with us commented, "Try to look beyond the treatment of the 'papers' and see the faces. Tears will come."

The John 3:16 Story

Here's something a little different that I'd like to share today. It touches my heart every time I hear it.

Author Unknown
Narrated by Bruce Frye

A little boy was selling newspapers on the corner...

Go down the street to that big white house...
Just say "John 3:16" and they will let you in.

John 3:16... I don't understand it, but it sure makes a cold boy warm.

John 3:16... Boy, I sure I don't understand it, but it sure makes a hungry boy full.

John 3:16... I sure don't understand it, but it sure makes a dirty boy clean.

John 3:16... I don't understand it, but it sure makes a tired boy rested.

John 3:16... "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

John 3:16... I don't understand why, but it sure makes a lost boy saved.

The Star Carol

This is my very favorite Christmas song, I believe. It is not well known and, to be honest, I never really took much notice of it until this year. It is a beautiful song with a lot of meaning. I found a lovely arrangement and hope you enjoy it!

Long years ago on a deep winter night,
High in the heavens a star shone bright,
While in a manger a wee baby lay,
Sweetly asleep on a bed of hay.

Jesus the Lord was that baby so small,
Laid down to sleep in a humble stall;
Then came the star and it stood overhead,
Shedding its light 'round His little bed.

Dear baby Jesus, how tiny Thou art,
I'll make a place for Thee in my heart,
And when the stars in the heavens I see,
Ever and always I'd think of Thee.

Do You Hear What I Hear?

I apologize for neglecting to share weekly Scripture songs in the recent weeks. To make up for the weeks I've lost (and will be losing) I'd like to share some of my favorite Christmas songs instead. May they bless your heart as they do mine! =)

(P.S. I don't like the concluding "Catholic" pictures in this video, so pretend the picture at the end of the post is the one you're seeing in the video. =)

Said the night wind to the little lamb,
"Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
Do you see what I see?
A star, a star
Dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite,
With a tail as big as a kite."

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
"Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
Do you hear what I hear?
A song, a song
High above the trees
With a voice as big as the seas,
With a voice as big as the seas."

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
"Do you know what I know?
In your palace warm, mighty king,
Do you know what I know?
A Child, a Child
Shivers in the cold,
Let us bring Him silver and gold,
Let us bring Him silver and gold."

Said the king to the people everywhere,
"Listen to what I say,
Pray for peace, people everywhere.
Listen to what I say.
The Child, the Child
Sleeping in the night,
He will bring us goodness and light,
He will bring us goodness and light."

Written by Noel Regency
Sung by Bing Cosby

The Nativity by Gerard van Honthorst

Can you imagine the absolute joy and wonder of that holy night? God chose to share it with simple shepherds. I don't think anyone else could have possibly grasped the fullness of it... that God came down to earth in the form of a little Baby.

Great Things and Unsearchable

Job 5:8-9

    I would seek unto God,
and unto God would I commit my cause:
which doeth great things and unsearchable,
    marvellous things without number.

God, I commit my cause to You.
I cannot count the good things You do.
It is You that I want to be glorified.
Job five, verses eight and nine.

    I would seek unto God,
and unto God would I commit my cause:
which doeth great things and unsearchable,
    marvellous things without number.

From the End of the Earth

Psalm 61:1-3

    Hear my cry, O God;
    attend unto my prayer.
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee,
    when my heart is overwhelmed:
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For thou hast been a shelter for me,
and a strong tower from the enemy.

    Hear my cry, O God;
    attend unto my prayer.
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee,
    when my heart is overwhelmed.

My Heart Trusted in Him

Psalm 28:7

    The LORD is my strength,
    The LORD is my shield;
    My heart trusted in Him,
    And I am helped:
    (repeat)

    Therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth;
And with my song will I praise Him.
    Therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth;
And with my song will I praise Him.
    (repeat)

The child of God is instructed foremost to speak to himself in psalms -- literally, songs finding their source in the Word of God. I find that Scripture songs are not only a tool to encourage myself in the Lord but are an excellent way to hide God's Word in my heart. Scripture memorization is effortless when paired up with a tune! =)

P.S. Sorry about the extra page full of empty staves at the end of the .pdf file. =/ I promise I'll have that glitch worked out by the time I post the next song. (wink)

Two Great Sermons

I recently listened to two different sermons which were just what I needed! The Lord has been dealing strongly with me about some things and He used these sermons to more deeply impress them into my heart. I needed them! They both challenged and encouraged me.

The sermons were preached at Bible Baptist Church of Fairbanks, Alaska, a church with a passion for souls and a heart for missionaries. This church has helped my family's ministry in tremendous ways and we are so grateful to God for them! They always go out of their way to make us feel welcomed and loved whenever we attend services there. I felt the Lord leading me to share the links to these sermons. The Lord knows who else needs to hear them. I pray you will take the time to listen to them and get a real blessing for your soul. Each is about 30 minutes long.

Pastor Doug Duffett

This is a sermon that will make your soul sing because God is just so good and gracious to us. That God gives His marvelous salvation to worthless sinners is more than we could ever hope for... yet He gives us so very much more! The riches of His grace are set as a feast before us.

Bro. Luke Bishop

We would do well to realize every morning, before we begin our day, and remember often throughout it, that "This is the day which the LORD hath made." The LORD has already made each day, preparing it to exactly suit our needs. We can choose to go our own way or we can submit to His will. When we have faith that He knows how our day should go better than we do, "we will rejoice and be glad in it." Knowing that every situation that may come up is foreseen and planned by our loving Lord will give us a quiet, settled peace and a joy that can't be shaken.
