A dear lady who visited us last week, Mrs. Audrey, who is Athabaskan Indian, taught my mom, sister, and me the basics of native beadwork. For ages I have been wanting to learn! As soon as I can get all the materials I need, I can begin practicing. During our little "class," Mrs. Audrey had each of us bead a necklace. Mrs. Audrey had previously made the teardrop-shaped pendant (see the photos); all I did was bead the chain. The long black beads on the chain of necklace are bone beads; the long, narrow white-and-black objects on the pendant are porcupine quills; the surface of the pendant is tanned moose hide. (I just love the smell of tanned moose hide! The scent lasts forever, too.) Mrs. Audrey does absolutely stunning work. I wish I could have taken pictures of her chief necklace -- very impressive!

Wow! That's prett neat! And with real, native "beads," too! Lol. I'd love to feel it. Are the beads very smooth?
Yes, the beads are smooth. The bone beads don't feel strange. They're actually store bought. =) The moose hide is what feels different; I love everything about moose hide--the smell, the texture, the color. It's so neat to work with!
